Sherman, named after the tank, which was named after a General.
Probably one of the smartest cats I have ever come across,
he was quite a presence in my home for nearly sixteen years.
A big cat, but delicate and dainty and very gentle, you could just see the wheels turning
in that noggin of his when he was planning his next adventure into the unknown.
I used to say to him, "If you only had thumbs, you could rule the world!"
People used to tell me that he was just too pretty to be a male cat.
He had a large vocabulary of miaows but he used them sparingly.
When I sneezed, he'd come up and quite concernedly look me square in the face
as if to say, "Geshundheit!  Are you all right?"  He also used to amuse himself
by chasing his tail while on the top of a ten foot ladder!
He was nineteen when he quietly informed me that it was time for him to go.
I miss him still.  See you on the other side, my friend...
